  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Fabulous Book Fiend -- So many little details to love : The great thing about a Lisa Jewell novel is the intricate details that she includes, details that briefly come up somewhere in the book and mean so much more than you realise at the time. The details of characters and the details of settings and events. This book is so reliant on those details and that's what I loved about it so much. ( Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2021 )
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars from Lucyfan -- SO. VERY. SLOW. : It was an absolute chore- and a bore- to get through this book. And then add to that, it was impossible to like or care about any of the shallow characters (even the baby was a hateful brat!), especially as the book dragged on and on for far too long. Plus, the book meandered back and forth between years in a clunky and confusing manner, which was extremely annoying, and broke any type of 'flow' in the storytelling. At the end, the author mentions that this book was written during the COVID "lockdown", so perhaps that had something to do with the disappointing result??? • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Well Read Nana 1/24 -- Perfect for a young adult, for my age of 50's not so much : I liked it , didn't love it .Would I recommend it, yes but to a younger generation of readers .I feel like if you are in your teens ,early 20's this book would be much more relatable and understood .I'm in my 50's so it wasn't a "Wow" for me personally. I like this author but some of her books are a love or just like for me. This one was just a like .I definitely think a younger audience would appreciate these confused teen characters with all their struggles , it would be much more relevant to a say 16 to 25 year old reader, just my humble opinion. This book is basically all about teenagers and their issues, some are very "mean girl ish " some are very substantial concerns. Crimes are committed, murders happen and thanks to not the police force but a mystery novelist we get to the bottom of what has happened. I did really like the ending because well without spoilers some characters were spared while others very sadly were not .Again I enjoy this author but I just think I'm a few decades too old for the angst for this read . • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Blue Eyes -- A young mother and her boyfriend are missing after a night out : Kim, the mother of the missing girl, Tallulah, and grandmother to her baby, Noah, is frantic. But it has been 15 months with no sign of the 2 teenagers who were last seen a a pool party at Tallulah’s friend Scarlett’s house. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2021 )
  • from Laurel-Rain Snow -- VINE VOICE : UNEXPECTED TWISTS & TURNS... ( 5.0 out of 5 stars )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from The Cookster -- A captivating page turner ... but there are times when it doesn't quite bear scrutiny. : Rating: 3.4/5 ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 21, 2021 )
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars from Bookaholic -- Skim read the last 300 pages : Sorry, I normally love her books and sit up into the early hours to finish them but this one was plain silly. I didn't like any of the characters and found it odd that attention was paid to the 'grieving' mother's hair and clothes and no details given on her state of mind as she tried to find her daughter and cared for her baby grandson. • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Lou -- Really ?? : I love Lisa’s books and have particularly enjoyed the psychological thriller ones but this one . . . . 3 stars is being generous. So many improbable twists and turns. Normally characters are so well developed but in this, some were like 2 dimensional afterthoughts eg Lexie. It was far fetched beyond belief. And what author forgets a significant clue they wrote in their debut novel ? I looked forward to this book for months and it was a big disappointment. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Bristol Book Blogger πŸ“šπŸ“–πŸ““ -- A slow-burning psychological thriller : I wasn't keen on The Family Upstairs but I bloody loved this one. It's nuanced, suspenseful, and plot-driven. I wasn't particularly interested in Sophie. She came across as rather one dimensional and boring and her husband seemed dull and uninterested in her. But Tallulah was lovely, if rather naive for a 19 year old. And Scarlett was a typically horrible, privileged, spoilt little cow. I guessed early on what the weapon and conclusion would be but there were still a couple of twists to surprise me at the end. Overall this was a slow-burning psychological thriller I would highly recommend and I thoroughly enjoyed reading. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 27, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Bluecashmere. -- Her best yet. : I have now read 9 of Lisa Jewell's novels. All have been totally engrossing and thoroughly enjoyable. She is the mistress of the modern whodunnit. In my view, only the American writer Shari Lapena is her equal. The two are very similar, particularly in their most recent novels. I agree with Harlam Coben that here Jewell surpasses herself. To divulge details of the book's substance would be an offence against those who have not yet encountered it. I can only recommend it without reservation. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 20, 2021 )
